Episode 251 – Game of Thrones (season 2)

“What is dead may never die.”

The second season of HBO’s ground breaking adaptation of the Song of Ice and Fire series has come to a close and with it we have called together our panel from episode 202 (season 1) to discuss it.

Book 2, titled A Clash of Kings, brought an array of new characters and locales while expanding the scope of the story begun in the first book/season. As we have come to expect, the show delivered intrigue, scheming, maneuvering, complex plot threads all set against the fantastically realized settings and locations of Westeros. And one more thing season 2 delivered (finally)… warfare! The second novel offered up action in the climactic battle of blackwater bay and HBO delivered on it very well.

The approach to the episode was to discuss the events of the season in a very general way by way of spotlighting each of the main characters, all wrapped with commentary on the themes of the overall story. The book to show comparisons are weighted toward the first half hour of the episode before directing focus more to the show itself. Spoilers are withheld for future events but a warning goes out for season 2 – it’s a very open discussion of everything that took place.

Thanks for this episode. I identified with Doug, this time. I experience Game of Thrones only through the tv show. The book readers are annoying.
